From the Presidents – August 19, 2022

Shalom Everyone! As our kids go back to school after the summer break, we can think about how far we have all come since the start of the decade. Just two years ago, as the world turned topsy-turvy, kids were forced to have school on computers, all our Temple activities were reduced to Zoom, and meeting each other outside of a virtual setting often meant a health risk. Now, though we still deal with the fallout from Covid, kids are back in school full time, the miracles of modern medicine are allowing us to return to activities we love, and soon we will have our High Holy Day services in-person again. Though we have lost so much (in time, experiences missed, and even lives) we can still be grateful for the opportunities we will still have in the future.
And in the spirit of opportunities, in less than two weeks our beloved Religious School will resume instruction for another exciting year. In order to get ready for the new year, Larry and David are organizing our traditional Temple cleanup to get the classrooms set. We would consider it a mitzvah for any of our members to show their support for our school by assisting in the cleanup. It will be on Sunday, August 21, from 12-2:30 p.m. Even if you can only stay for a short time, it would still be a big help because, as the saying goes, “many hands make light work.”
Finally, our weekly Torah studies will continue each Saturday at 10:15 a.m. and the next Shabbat service will be held this Friday, August 19. You can join either in-person or on Zoom. Thanks everyone!

If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
If I am not for others, what am I?
And if not now, when? -Rabbi Hillel
