And Chag Sukkot! Hopefully everyone has had a chance to come see the Temple Sukkah, especially last Sunday for Rabbi Dean’s gathering and the Urban Tilth presentation. A huge thanks to everyone who attended and made the event happen. And as we look ahead to this week, we can be reminded of the words of wisdom from Rabbi Dean: Sukkot is one of the only holidays where we are required to be joyful. Considering all the holidays that require reflection or sadness, including the High Holidays and Passover and remembering the Shoah, a celebration like Sukkot can bring excitement and happiness to us all. Therefore, sometime this week let us all treat ourselves to an event or treat (a movie, a play, a huge ice cream sundae!) that will bring warmth to our souls. Our kids can certainly take advantage of this reality. My own son took the lesson to heart by telling me the other night that he should get to choose what to eat for dinner and what to read at bedtime because he needed to be happy, Rabbi’s orders! It was such an eye opening experience because it represented a vivid example of these wonderful traditions being adopted by the next generation. Required happiness will continue for many years to come!
In other news, next week on Sunday we will be taking the Sukkah down after Tefillah services to close out another year and we would love to have parents and temple members to volunteer to assist us. We deeply appreciate it. And for those who wish to make a difference in our own community, we highly encourage you to consider joining the Temple Beth Hillel Board of Directors next year. Our Board is always on the lookout for members who have ideas for the future of the temple and the ability to carry out that vision. And as we have discovered, serving on the Board makes us appreciate how much Temple Beth Hillel means to us and our children. In addition, we would like to thank all those who have made donations for our High Holiday project of replacing the window coverings in the sanctuary. And for those who wish to volunteer for Food for Thought this year, there is a sign up sheet in the main hallway.
Finally, our next regular Shabbat Service will take place this Friday, October 6, at 7:30 p.m. This will be an extra special Shabbat because we will be combining our Simchat Torah service as well! Come join us to dance with the Torah! Torah Study will also continue every Saturday at 10:15 p.m. And of course, we encourage everyone to come to our wonderful Tefillah services every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Lastly, the next Family Shabbat service will be held on Friday, October 20, at 6:15 p.m. just before our regular Shabbat service. Please help spread the word. We’ll see y’all in our sukkah on Sunday! Thank you everyone!
