Now in its 7th year of operation, TBH’s Food For Thought program has expanded from 90 to 250 students in the West Contra Costa Unified School District. Approximately 1500 of the most food insecure elementary school students and their family members received boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables, canned goods, breads, peanut butter, and a fresh turkey for the winter school break. Donations of foods are from Semifreddis, Food Maxx, Berkeley Bowl, and other local businesses.
Food For Thought has become a collaborative effort with many local interfaith communities participating:
Let’s Feed the Kids (LFTK) — is a coalition of Contra Costa religious congregations and is organized and led by Wendy Neale, Walnut Creek:
- Shell Ridge Community Church, Congregation B’nai Tikvah, Grace Presbyterian
- Church (Walnut Creek), Shared Ministries of Pittsburg (United Church of Christ and Presbyterian) and
- Clayton Valley Presbyterian Church (Concord)
- Hope Lutheran, El Sobrante
Other religious organizations include Chinese Church for Christ Richmond, Easter Hill Methodist Church Richmond, Open Door United Methodist, Islamic Society of West Contra Costa.
