Shalom Everyone! And our Religious School is off and running! We had our first class this past Sunday and it was so wonderful to see all the kids together again. As a reminder, all those who wish to join us for our Tefillah services are welcome on any Sunday at 9:30 a.m. The Religious School families often only see each other and it would be nice for them to get to know other members of the Temple as well.
At the same time this past Sunday, members of our congregation represented Temple Beth Hillel at the Jewish Heritage night at the A’s game. We had quite a turnout, especially since they were playing the Yankees. Looking at the crowds reminded us how much more we are now able to do without overly endangering our health. Just as we will soon celebrate a new year with Rosh Hashana in the next few weeks, we can celebrate new opportunities for excitement and community. And as a bonus, somehow the A’s beat the Yankees for the second game in a row! (talk about a miracle!)
Looking ahead, on September 11 Temple Beth Hillel will be hosting a booth at the Solano Stroll for the first time in several years. We would appreciate all volunteers who will sign up to come to the booth sometime that day to spread the word about our congregation to the broader community. Also, our next Shabbat service will be on Friday, September 2 (just in time for Labor Day).And as always, Torah study will be this Saturday at 10:15 a.m. You can join either in-person or on Zoom. Shalom Everyone! First of all, we wanted to extend our greatest thanks to all the volunteers who came to the Temple Clean-up last Sunday. Our volunteers helped to pick up trash, clean up the playground, washed the windows, cleared out boxes from the hallway, and restocked the storage shed. It’s so wonderful to see our Temple members performing a mitzvah for all our kids to get their classrooms and grounds ready for the new Religious School year.
We would also like to extend an invitation for all Temple members to join us for the first day of Religious School on Sunday, August 28, for our Tefillah service at 9:30 a.m. The Religious School families often only see each other and it would be nice for them to get to know other members of the Temple as well.
Looking ahead, the annual Jewish Heritage night at the Oakland coliseum will be happening this Sunday as well. It’s always fun to celebrate Jewish heritage while also watching a thrilling baseball game. Also, on September 11 Temple Beth Hillel will be hosting a booth at the Solano Stroll again. We would appreciate all volunteers who will sign up to come to booth sometime that day to spread the word about our congregation.
Last Friday was our final Shabbat service for the month of August. Rabbi Dean was traveling so Maggie graciously stepped in to help lead our service along with Cantor Marney. Once again seeing members of our congregation volunteer their time symbolizes so much about our community. Our next Shabbat service will be on Friday, September 2 (just in time for Labor Day).And as always, Torah study will be this Saturday at 10:15 a.m. You can join either in-person or on Zoom. Shalom Everyone! As our kids go back to school after the summer break, we can think about how far we have all come since the start of the decade. Just two years ago, as the world turned topsy-turvy, kids were forced to have school on computers, all our Temple activities were reduced to Zoom, and meeting each other outside of a virtual setting often meant a health risk. Now, though we still deal with the fallout from Covid, kids are back in school full time, the miracles of modern medicine are allowing us to return to activities we love, and soon we will have our High Holy Day services in-person again. Though we have lost so much (in time, experiences missed, and even lives) we can still be grateful for the opportunities we will still have in the future.
And in the spirit of opportunities, in less than two weeks our beloved Religious School will resume instruction for another exciting year. In order to get ready for the new year, Larry and David are organizing our traditional Temple cleanup to get the classrooms set. We would consider it a mitzvah for any of our members to show their support for our school by assisting in the cleanup. It will be on Sunday, August 21, from 12-2:30 p.m. Even if you can only stay for a short time, it would still be a big help because, as the saying goes, “many hands make light work.”
Finally, our weekly Torah studies will continue each Saturday at 10:15 a.m. and the next Shabbat service will be held this Friday, August 19. You can join either in-person or on Zoom. Thanks everyone!

Shalom Everyone!  As we head into July, there are plenty of events to keep us busy, including this upcoming July 4 weekend.  I encourage everyone to come to our Shabbat Service this Friday, July 1, at 7:30 p.m., where our former Cantor Fran Burgess will lead the service while Rabbi Dean is in Israel.  You can also join via Zoom (see the link below).  There will also be a Torah Study this Saturday, July 2, starting at 10:15 a.m.  We’ll see y’all there.  Thanks everyone!

Happy Summer Everyone! As we pass the Summer Solstice, we are all looking forward to long days with our families and hopefully plenty of fun trips as well. Thankfully, the alarm panel that was broken in the recent breakin has been replaced and is working again. We will also be updating the calendar shortly to highlight Shabbat services, Torah study, etc. Thanks everyone!
