From the President – January 21, 2021

I’m feeling better this week.  My anxiety level has decreased and my hope has been fortified and renewed.  Perhaps the evil forces of hate that have been released and incited will crawl back under their rocks.  Perhaps Covid-19 vaccines will be properly administered.  I am not so naïve as to think this will happen quickly and without struggle.  Whether hidden or in plain sight, the evils of racism and anti-Semitism will still exist, as will the distrust of science and facts.  Progress will be met with fierce resistance, but I have reason to hope that progress will be made.  An African-American/Asian woman married to a Jew is our Vice President, an African-American and a Jew represent the state of Georgia in the Senate, and, as I am writing this, Mercedes is confirming her appointment to receive her first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.  Today I have hope that this fall we can dine out again, attend and make theater again, attend schools including our Religious School, and observe our High Holy Days together and in person.

If I am not for others, what am I?

And if not now, when?   -Rabbi Hillel
